To create bold, genre-driven films by queer people that center on our lives, our fantasies, our fears, and our flaws. Cloudy House Pictures brings stories to life where queer characters are heroes, villains, final girls, monsters, lovers, and everything in-between. (And we have a great time doing it.)

We tell stories through a queer lens, just not the sanitized kind. We believe in genre as a playground, not a prestige pedestal. Think John Waters, Don Mancini, Sam Raimi, or Gregg Araki -- filmmakers who know that blood and glitter are often best when mixed together.
Our projects are ambitious and collaborative, but always focused. Trashy? Maybe. Boring? Never.
Our Story
Cloudy House Pictures was born out of a deep love for genre film. After years of working in the festival world (SXSW, aGLIFF, Fantastic Fest) programmer Austin King saw firsthand how many queer films still felt boxed in. These stories were either sanitized for approval or stuck in tired gay tropes.
We want to make something different: films that feel like the wildest late-night block at your favorite festival. Think practical effects, budget-friendly set pieces, and the joy of figuring out how to make a river of blood flow out of your friend’s back.
Our Team
Cloudy House Pictures was founded by Austin King and Stephen Hanson, husbands in both real life and in art. Together they collaborate with an amazing crew of Austin, TX based artists and filmmakers that are also passionate about telling queer narratives, and embrace a commitment to craft, authenticity, and camp.
